External Thermal Insulation
External insulation (ETI) is technically superior to internal insulation for one simple reason: it
wraps the entire building without creating thermal bridges and without reducing the living
area.
In Luxembourg, where winters are cold and energy requirements are high, ETI is increasingly
recommended, particularly for homes built before the year 2000. It allows higher energy
efficiency ratings to be achieved, which directly adds value on the property market.
An insulating panel is bonded and anchored to the substrate, then covered with a mineral, organic or lime-based finishing render. A clean, uniform result with a wide choice of textures and colours.
An insulator is fixed to the substrate, then covered with cladding leaving a ventilated air gap. A more mechanically robust solution with a stronger aesthetic character than render.
For stone or brick buildings, lime render allows insulation while preserving the breathability of the wall. Particularly suited to older buildings and character homes in the Province of Luxembourg.
Unlike internal insulation, ETI does not reduce the living area. A direct advantage for already compact rooms.
ETI wraps the entire structure, eliminating thermal bridges that can account for up to 30% of heat loss.
ETI also improves summer comfort by limiting wall heat absorption from sunlight.
ETI works are carried out entirely from the outside. You can continue living in your home throughout the works.
Generally between 12 and 20 cm depending on the energy target and the initial condition of the wall. To achieve an A rating, a thickness of 16 to 20 cm is often required on older walls.
Yes, within municipal regulations. Some municipalities impose specific colors or materials. COMODO checks these constraints before presenting options
For a standard single-family house, expect between 3 and 6 weeks depending on surface area and project complexity.
Yes. External thermal insulation is eligible for Klima-Agence grants, subject to performance conditions. COMODO informs you about eligibility requirements.
